Designed by Y3 students during SS 2021-2022, the project forms part of the Mitsubishi Electrical Thailand Hometown Development Project, where every year a local school is provided funding for a built project. INDA has been working with MET for many years, and the latest project (completed in 2023) is a multi-function hall for Wat Potharam School in Surat Thani. The project is designed as three rectangular spaces turned 45 degrees on the axis, thus allowing for flexibility of smaller and one large activity. Using basic materials that any builder can build with, the idea was to celebrate the qualities of the materials and their appropriateness to construction. In further consultation with the school pupils, a pattern was developed that was incorporated into the design of the internal elevation line of the structure. A large oversailing roof and large openings in the flanking walls respond directly to the tropical climate, but also frame views of different parts of the surrounding school buildings, making this new addition, the heart of the campus.
